About Henry Spencer’s Music
Touching jazz, rock and minimalism, sometimes cinematic, the music’s “astonishing dynamic variety” (Manchester Jazz Festival) combines highly intense, raw energy and evocative outlets, with moments of intimate, heart-felt, emotionally-led, lyrical melodies - almost as if there were actually words being sung.

Henry’s unusual and personal approach to writing and performing gives the music its rare and impactful strength; emotionally drawing in as well as exhilarating the listener. Henry is driven to write and perform to deal with personal experience (much like a singer songwriter, see below), but he also considers the listener, engaging them so they relate it to their own experience.

Henry on his approach
“I’ve always been most interested in music that’s driven by sincere emotional intent and deals with genuine experience. I want to draw in the listener so they engage with the music, relating it to their own personal experience - with as much emotive clarity as if the music had lyrics. It’s an outlet, a release.”

“I often use lyrics as part of the writing process.”

THE REASONS DON'T CHANGE
MULTI-GRAMMY AWARD WINNER COLLABORATION

Grammy Award Winner, Dave Darlington has worked with everyone from Miles Davis, Ambrose Akinmusire, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock to Sting, Prince, Jamiroquai and Michael Jackson.

Made with collaboration of Multi-Grammy Award Winning Mixing/Mastering Engineer, Dave Darlington:

‘Mixing Henry Spencer’s new album was the most fun I’ve had in a long time! His skillful compositions and colorful arrangements had me tipping back in my chair and just listening, soaking in the rich beauty of his soulful playing and the air tight grooves. Backed by a stellar ensemble and with the steady hand of co-producer Paul Whalley on the tiller, this project went smoothly from beginning to end. The proof is in the music!’

The producer, Paul Whalley,  a Platinum Producer has worked with other Platinum award-winning record producers such as Labrinth and Mushtaq Udin including recently on the new Justin Timberlake album. He has worked with labels such as Universal, Polydor, Decca and Sony BMG.

A wide range of unorthodox recording/production techniques are being pulled from various styles, most of which have never before been brought together like this on a record.
