"Rounding off the year, trumpeter Henry Spencer brought his band Juncture, and the whole band participated in the workshop, giving a torrent of advice and positive feedback to the lucky attendees! Henry’s gig was outstanding, raising expectations for his release on Whirlwind." Henry Spencer and Juncture at The Verdict, Brighton, by Sussex Jazz Magazine
Henry Spencer (Bmus Hons) has experience of teaching students with a range of abilities and ages from absolute beginners to advanced music students at conservatoires.
Since graduating from The Guildhall School of Music in 2012 he continues to work and perform regularly in a range of high profile ensembles and different styles of music, including with his multi-award winning group, 'Henry Spencer and Juncture'.
For the first two years of his four year jazz trumpet degree course it also involved a focus on classical trumpet playing. As a result, he is in the fortunate, and quite unusual position of having extensive experience in both jazz and classical music.
He can offer one to one and ensemble teaching in classical, commercial and jazz music as well as tuition in improvisation, harmony and theory, composition, arranging and song writing.
"I enjoy adapting my teaching style so that it best suits the specific needs and interests of the individual student. I place considerable importance on the individual approach for effective teaching. I make it a priority to ensure my pupils have a deep all round understanding and level of musicianship as well as to address their own particular musical interests, whether they are in jazz, classical or commercial music."
"Having experienced life as a student where music is not necessarily the main focus, as well as having been a scholar at a specialist music school and gone on to a prestigious music conservatoire, I have an understanding of what interests and motivates the different types of students."
